Men's Summer Book Study
May 21 - August 20
This Summer we are organizing small groups to read and discuss the book You're Only Human: How Your Limits Reflect God's Design and Why That's Good News, by Kelly M. Kapic. This book is not only timely given our moment in history, but also necessary for the health of the church. As Kapic explains, we live in a frenetic culture that has endless expectations for what we should do that stretches us beyond our God-given limits. Living beyond our limits on the surface seems harmless but over the long haul will continually limit our capacity to our highest call –– to love God and our neighbors as ourselves.
Now, if you're like me, the last thing you want to hear is that you have limits, or worse, that you need to slow down enough to identify those limits. This is counter-cultural to say the least. However, I can honestly and joyfully attest from my own journey the last two years that I have found more freedom, contentment, and clarity as a child of God, a husband, father, colleague and friend by coming to terms with my God-given limits. It was and is painful at times but so worth it, as saying "yes" to Jesus and "no" to your self normally is.
So, for my fellow limit-avoiding brothers, in Kapic's words I invite you to not just read this book, but to wrestle with these ideas in community with hope that we will discover new paths of liberty to "actually rest, enjoy God's grace, recognize His presence and the pace of life He is calling us to, and to love others well and not simply get things done."
Register now and reserve a copy You're Only Human for $10 (50% off). Details for this opportunity below:
Time-commitment: We start with "time" because this is a major point of this book. It will indeed require you to say "no" to more things than usual in order to adopt a different pace, but I believe that these intentional times of opening ourselves up to the Lord and each other will pay dividends for our growth. Take a deep breath. You can do this! The schedule is actually VERY flexible:
- You will aim to meet 6 times between May 21 – Aug 20
- 4x to discuss the book
- 2x for just fellowship
Parish Small Groups: Similar to the Gentle & Lowly book study we did in 2021 we seeking to place you in a group within your parish. Proximity just simply makes commitments easier and more effective.
We’ll provide reflection questions for each chapter, which will be the guide for your in-person discussion time. Food and drink always make fellowship better which is why we are providing a stipend to supplement these costs for your sessions.
